The 31st edition of Iran Nuclear Conference, organized by the Iranian Nuclear Society and supported by the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), has opened in the northeastern city of Mashhad.
The conference kicked off on Tuesday, and will run through May 15.
Among the key themes of the scientific event are “Application of Radiation and New Radiation Technologies”, “Physics and Technology of Nuclear Fusion and Plasma”, “Nuclear Reactors & Quantum Technologies”, “Nuclear Fuel Cycle & Materials”, and “Nuclear Governance & Sustainable Development”.
The conference is much expected to present an opportunity to exchange viewpoints, put new achievements on display, and develop national cooperation in the field of nuclear science and technology.
“Research Reactors in the World and their Applications”, “Introduction of Neutron Imaging System in Tehran Reactor”, “Fuel Testing in Tehran Reactor”, “Radioisotope Production and Irradiation of Gemstones in Tehran Reactor”, and “Introduction of Isfahan Research Reactors” are the main topics to be discussed on the first day of the conference.
Addressing a cabinet meeting on Sunday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stressed that the Islamic Republic, under no circumstances, will compromise on its nuclear facilities in the course of talks with the US.
He said Iran’s engagement in indirect talks with the US proves that Tehran is committed to peace.
However, Iran will not agree to abandon its nuclear facilities, Pezeshkian underlined, saying any speculation about discarding Iran’s nuclear infrastructure is completely unacceptable.
He noted that nuclear technology and the advancements made by Iranian scientists in the peaceful nuclear sector have applications in various fields, including agriculture, environmental protection, industry, and medicine.
Therefore, the Islamic Republic will steadfastly continue its peaceful nuclear activities, the president stated.
Pezeshkian made it clear that Iran has never sought, and will never seek nuclear weapons, stating that it opposes such arms.
