Hamas has vowed a war of attrition in response to Israel’s brutal war on the besieged Gaza Strip and other Palestinian territories and declared the regime's offensive as Benjamin Netanyahu's political failure.

In a statement released on Sunday, Hamas declared that "the resistance was waging a war of attrition in response to the genocide against civilians, surprising the enemy daily with renewed field tactics."

The Palestinian group further said that the Israeli escalation of its military offensive "exacerbates its losses, pushes its captives towards the unknown."

The statement comes after Palestinian resistance fighters killed and injured a number of Israeli occupation forces in an ambush in the southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Younis, amid the regime’s escalated aggression on the besieged territory.

Palestine's Safa news agency cited Hebrew-language reports as saying that a special force of the occupation army was attacked east of Khan Younis, resulting in five deaths and injuries to others in its ranks after a bomb exploded.

The deaths brought to nearly 900 the total number of Israeli troops killed since the start of Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, 2023, according to figures released by the army.

Observers say operations show the resistance group remains strong and steadfast, 20 months after the start of Israel's air and ground offensive in Gaza.

Rami Abu Zubaydah, a Palestinian military analyst, recently said the latest resistance operations against invading Israeli forces in Gaza show Hamas is "switching from a defensive phase to tactical attack mode."

Israel has said it would further extend its onslaught across the besieged Palestinian territory.

Netanyahu said the scheme would involve the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to southern Gaza.

Israel has already expanded its ground aggression in Gaza, seeking to seize a large portion of the Palestinian territory.

Hamas in the Sunday statement further stressed that the "absolute victory" that Netanyahu speaks of is nothing but an illusion to mislead his public.

"The aggression that Netanyahu wanted without end has turned into a daily burden, and it will be his political and personal end, after the collapse of the illusion of a quick resolution."

Elsewhere in the statement, Hamas said that "the only solution is through a comprehensive deal, which Netanyahu rejects."

According to Gaza health officials, nearly 54,880 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in the Israeli aggression.

During its bloody aggression, Israel has targeted Gaza’s civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and schools, in blatant violation of international law.

Military experts say the Israeli regime has failed to achieve any of its stated goals in the war.

Last November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for the Israeli regime’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and his former war minister, Yoav Gallant, for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its war crimes against civilians in the enclave.
